I love Alameda walking but I have been taking the liberty of recounting my recent trips with
Mastick Senior Center in their Bay Area Issues class. We seniors are learning how be comfortable using public transportation to get to more Bay Area destinations. On Thursday our group traveled to Old Town Sacramento and the Capitol via BART and Amtrak, and the Sacramento light rail. The weather was beautiful and the day was filled. We got off Amtrak and walked a very short distance right to the center of Old Town Sacramento and the Railroad Museum, walking along cobblestone paths we went parallel to the Sacramento River and the train tracks past street after street of shops, assayers office, paddlewheel, and finally reaching the schoolhouse where an actual class was in session.
A three handed schoolmarm rang the bell for class.
From corner we could look down the street at the Capitol Bldg. and walked there along the wide street, enjoying beautiful pink and white dogwood and other flowering trees.
On each corner State Buildings with beautiful friezes filled me with wonder.

Inside the Capitol we had lunch and toured the historical rooms including Governor Pardee's office on the day after the 1906 earthquake, his private office and the Secretary of State's office.
Downstairs murals of the most delicate tonalist colors fill a circular waiting area.
Later we took the light rail back toward the train station and had a treat and said a last goodbye to the Golden Bridge over the River.
I must include the bizarre image of "snow" or "hail" we encountered on our return trip at the Suisun station, the conductor announced that they were being very vigilant of flash floods that afternoon. We returned home weary after a long fun filled day. It is always an adventure with our leader, Donna. Thanks.
