I followed these fingers north toward the water. (Double click the photo and see if you can find my camera in the mirrors).
Technically, Alameda didn't start as an island, but the estuary was dredged as early as 1853 for ferries and later in 1901 as a shipping lane. Here is a view of the Fruitvale Bridge leading into Oakland.
When I'm walking this area, I always stop at Nob Hill, just to enjoy the shiny orange floors, why do those floors always make the food seem more tempting, the laundry detergent more alluring and the produce pop? The Peet's coffee bar and comfy seats are perfect for a break and view of the water.
